BUDGET: ZANZIBAR

Zanzibar wasn't even on the pre trip plan but we tried to stay in the $200/day Kenya plan.  But Zanzibar is a place where people go on "holiday" and can be a bit challenging  on a budget.  But it wasn't like we were trying to live for $100/day.   If you opted to stay the entire time in Stone Town it would be significantly cheaper, but we wanted the barefoot-white sand experience, a bit of beach life and we really lucked out with accommodations.  All in all I think our money was well spent for the wonderful beach holiday we had.  Here is the breakdown...

Pre-trip estimated budget:
$200/day for 11 days= $2200

Actual Budget:

Cost of getting to Zanzibar:
Plane from Kenya-Zanzibar RT(x4)= $1400
visas for Tanzania (x4)= $400
Total extras:   $1800

Daily expenses:
Accommodations:  $1230
Food & Drinks:  $878
Transportation: $149
Entertainment: $127
Tips & Gifts:  $59
Supplies: $63
Clothing: $20
Total: $2526 or $230/day

Difference per day +$30 x11= $333
plus plane and visas= $1800
Total over budget $2133

We figured from Hawaii, when would we be back to this part of the world...and we just went for it.  It did bring us over budget a significant amount but was there even a moment of regret?  Nope.  So glad we did our spontaneous trip to Zanzibar!
