Budget Morocco:
Morocco was one of those countries where I just completely guessed a daily budget. I did some online research but it is so hard to tell how much accommodations are going to cost when you are talking about 4 people rather then 2. I figured $200/day was plenty because it had to be cheaper than Europe. And it was but I threw the whole thing off by renting really nice accommodations. With a daily budget of $200, accommodations should fall at about 1/3 of the total, so $65-$70 but I was constantly finding us cute places for just a little more....$100-$125/night. I could have found us do-able places for the right amount. Was it worth it?...I think so. I loved the exotic environment of our Raids and Dars that we rented. Throw in a 2 night Camel Safari and a 4x4 tour and our estimated budget was not that solid. So here it is...........
Pre-trip estimated budget:
$200/day for $31 days = $6200
Actual Budget:
Accommodations: $3361
Food & Drinks: $1520
Transport: $1022
Entertainment: $342
Tips and gift: $41
General Supplies: $113
Visa & Airport Fees: $80 (for Turkey: 24 hrs layover and again for 12 hours, going and returning from Kenya)
Clothing: $78
Total: $6537 or $211/day
Difference: over budget by $11/day or +$337... aw, not that bad.
For reference we rented our own car for 2 weeks ($34/day) and we stayed in moderately priced airbnb private apartments most of the time. Otherwise we stayed in small hotels for around $70-80/nt for the four of us. Also food expenses for our family are alway a bit more since we don't eat Gluten. We can't have the cheap sandwiches, pizzas, pastas or just fill up on bread. We ate a whole bunch of tagines.
