Budget: Europe

Budget: Europe (England-Italy-France-Spain)

In an effort to make my accounting easier, I have split our 8 weeks in Europe in to 3 distinct trips.
I)  3 weeks in London and Italy
II) 2 weeks with my parents in Italy, France, & Spain (Spoiler: They treated us the entire 2 weeks!)
III) 3 weeks in Spain on our own again.
and...
IV) inter-Europe flights went into a separate catagory.

Part 1: London & Italy

Considering Europe can be pretty expensive,  I am feeling really good with our first 3 weeks spent in England and Italy (Sept 8-Sept 30)  We lived extreemly comfortably, (somehow we always had 2 bedrooms, something we never had in "cheaper" Latin America)  ate super good food, and saw a lot of sights.  I think I have always been a little nervous about the price of our European leg but with a little research it worked out perfectly.  Our tricks included finding good last minute deals on Airbnb apartments and villas which had kitchens and laundry machines, eating-in 2 meals a day, skipping high cost entry tickets, and renting a compact car as our main transport.

Number of Nights:  23 nights
Our Original Budget: $250/day

Actual Expenses:
Accommodations-  $2710
Food/Drinks-  $2062

Total: $5997 ($261/day)

Difference between actual and original:
over $247  (and we lived large)

Part II:  European vacation with parents (Italy, fRANCE, & sPAIN)

My parents sponsored us for 2 weeks.  Yup, they covered everything...and planned everything, giving me a much loved break from researching "the next stop" and all of us a bit of luxury!

Our Total Cost for the 2 Weeks "European Vacation": $ 170 (which was for random supplies)

PART III: SPAIN

Seeing this wonderful opportunity to use our "free" weeks in Europe to offset our budget disaster in Nicaragua I adjusted our Spain budget a little lower with the hopes of bringing our total budget for the year back on tract.  So we tried to stick to $220/day for the 2.5 weeks we explored Spain.

Here is how it breaks down:

Number of Nights:  19 nights
Our Original Budget: $250/day  ($4750)

Actual Expenses:
Accommodations-  $1829
Food/Drinks-  $1342
Transportation: $733
Entertainment: $11
Tips and Gifts: $90
clothing: $78
General Supplies: $126
Total: $4210 ($222/day)

Difference between actual and original:
-$540  (and again we lived large)

PART 1V: FLIGHTS IN EUROPE

1) London to Venice- $410
2) Barcelona, Spain to Granada Sapin - $470
Total for flights:  $880

in summary....

Original budget for all of Europe
for 55 days was $250/day
total of $13,750

Actual costs:
Part 1:$5997
Part 2: $170
Part 3:  $4210
Part 4: $880
Total: $11,257

Difference: under by $2493

Nice, made up for Nicaragua-budget-blunder and feeling pretty balanced leaving Europe into Africa.  Thanks mom and dad.
